Huawei has just announced that it will release its latest flagship smartphone on January 6 in the US. The Huawei Mate 9 will come pre-installed with Alexa, Amazon’s AI software. Amazon has been pushing their digital assistant software to a lot of devices this year. Alexa powers devices like Amazon’s smart speakers, LG’s Smart Fridge, and now, the Mate 9. It seems as though Apple needs to step up Siri’s game if they wish to stay on top of the smartphone AI arena.

Huawei created a new milestone with this move. This will also be the first time Alexa comes pre-installed in a smartphone. Huawei also claims that the smartphone will bring a new and convenient user interface for the customer. Huawei aims to copy the usual capabilities of digital assistants. The smartphone can set alarms, organize to-do-list, gather information, etc. Google perfected this with their excellent Google Assistant.

Existing Mate 9 owners will receive this app via over-the-air-update. Check out the official Mate 9 introduction video below:

Early review claim Mate 9 is the Note 7 successor

Early reviews of the smartphone claim that the Mate 9 is now the best big-screen Android phone on the market. It seems as though Huawei is quickly claiming Samsung’s spot as the best Android smartphone maker. Samsung lost their credibility last year due to the embarrassing global recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Huawei opens the new year with its excellent smartphone. The Alexa integration was a pleasant surprise for people in CES 2017. Will this mean more AI assistants in smartphones this 2017?
