Tech enthusiasts are waiting for the official announcement of Microsoft Surface Pro 5. Unfortunately, though, it’s not likely to launch until Spring 2017.

Microsoft had launched the Pro 4 in October 2015. If the company follows its pattern of release, October 2016 seems like the most probable launch date for a new model. However, PC Advisor notes at its October Windows event, there were no signs of Surface Pro 5. The new Surface hardware was only limited to the Surface Book i7 and the Surface Studio.

This suggests its release date could fall anytime this year. But reports claim the tech giant will hold back the debut of its next generation Surface tablet until the next big Windows 10 update (also called the Creators Update). Apparently, the event could simultaneously launch the Surface Pro 5 since there is news that the hybrid device will be the first one to run the upgraded OS. The company, however, has yet to confirm this.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 : What to expect

Meanwhile, another exciting rumor surrounding the tablet reveals the inclusion of a trackpad and finger scanner. The Surface Pro 5 may also have an upgraded Surface Pen with a stylus built with a rechargeable battery.  Users should be able to charge that the pen wirelessly only through docking the stylus into the tablet.

Intel’s 7th Generation Kaby Lake processor will power the device which will reportedly come in three variants: the Core M (dual core), Core i5 (dual-core with two threads), and Core i7 (quad-core with eight threads). This will provide the tablet higher processing speeds and longer battery life.

Patrons can expect an improved cinematic experience as well as Microsoft allegedly plans to install a 12.5-inch 4K screen to the device. This should offer 3D support at 60 frames per second. Furthermore, Microsoft could ditch the Super AMOLED screens in favor of an IPS touch one.

Sources have hinted about two different versions of storage 16 GB and 32 GB, supporting 512GB to 1TB storage SSD. Enhancements to the camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity is also expected to be included, per Tech Times. If these specs are accurate, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will likely have a starting price of $899.

Again, the aforementioned are mere speculations. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed anything yet, not even its official launch date. We’ll keep you updated once they do, though, so stay tuned!
