One of the biggest tech events of the year- CES 2017- brought along a number of surprises for tech enthusiasts. From laptops to smart homes, everything reflected high-tech era.
A truckload of new gadgets, cars, TVs and other initiatives took our breath away.
World’s tech manufacturers got together to kickstart the trends for 2017 with the launch of new technology. Now when the show has successfully wrapped, let’s have a look at all the big launches.
Let’s begin with the biggest comeback of the year. Blackberry- which remained out of market for a long time- was launched at CES this year. TCL introduced the much-rumored Blackberry mercury called the DTEK70. The phone flaunts a touch and type arrangement with keyboard.
2. Samsung Announcements at CES 2017
Samsung made quite a few innovative announcements at the show. From smartphones to robots, the tech giant didn’t leave a single chance to improve its scores. The list includes refreshed Galaxy A series smartphones and a new Powerbot VR7000 remote vacuum cleaner.
Family Hub 2, an updated connected fridge; QLED TVs and updated SUHD TVs also made it to the list. Last year’s SUHD TVs promise promise double the brightness and rich colors with the update.
3. Samsung Powerbot VR7000 Remote Vacuum Cleaner
The new vacuum by Samsung is around 4 inches tall and 28 percent thinner than the previous version. Samsung Powerbot is said to offer up to 20 watts of suction power on the most powerful model.
Powerbot VR7000 comes with Amazon Echo support so you can operate your vacuum cleaner with voice controls. It can also intelligently map out rooms and optimize its cleaning depending on floor type.
4. Sony at CES 2017
Sony’s list of announcements include Bravia A1 OLED TV and a full line-up of refreshed XE series televisions. The top TV sets use Sony’s Slim Backlight Drive+ system and support Dolby Vision. Sony also launched a Ultra HD Blu-ray player supporting the advanced HDR format.
5. LG OLED TV W at CES 2017
Right before CES began, LG announced a range of products including the K series smartphones. It was almost like preparing people for bigger things that made their way to CES. LG Signature OLED TV W remained the most talked about launches among all.
LG Signature OLED TV W is just 2.5mm thick and is pretty much like a wallpaper. The TV comes with a Dolby Atmos soundbar. LG also updated its regular OLED TVs, launching the G7, E7, C7 and B7. All of these support full range of HDR formats and are 25 per cent brighter.
The company also announced Dolby Vision supporting Ultra HD blu-ray player. LG Hub Robot remained the most exciting announcements of them all.
6. LG Hub Robot
LG’s bot is among the most amazing and exciting robots that debuted at CES. It can dance along with music and show its own facial expressions as you interact with it. Watch the video above to see all it can do. With that it becomes the cutest Al assistant.
LG Hub Robot is similar to Amazon’s Alexa and is even powered by same software. The biggest difference is its face that makes the voice command more interactive.
You can operate a number of LG devices in your home with the help of this bot. The robots comes in different sizes and the larger is perhaps meant for airports and hotels.
7. Lenovo Miix 720 at CES 2017
Lenovo Miix 720 managed to grab everyone’s attention with Intel Core processors, a 12-inch display, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. The laptop weighs just 1kg and comes with a whole range of connectivity, including USB, Thunderbolt 3 and SD card slot.
The company also announced its own Smart Assistant much like Amazon’s Echo. It uses Alexa’s platform to perform the same tasks as its competitor.
8. Lenovo Smart Assistant
Lenovo Smart Assistant uses Alexa to field spoken commands to play music, turn on the lights, and create to-do lists. It has has eight microphones to listen to voice commands. These microphones allow it to hear from all angles at long distances.
An upgraded version of the smart assassinate- that comes with Harman Kardon premium audio speakers- will also be available soon. Lenovo’s Smart Assistant will be available in May and is expected to come in several colors including green and grey. The standard version will sell for $130 while the one with Harman Kardon speakers will cost $180.
9. Dell XPS 13 at CES 2017
Dell added a pinch of innovation to CES with its 2-in-1 hybrid laptop called Dell XPS 13. It offers a 360-degree hinge using Continuum and up to 15 hours of battery life. The company also updated XPS 13 with fan-less design. It comes in a 7th Gen Intel Core vPro processors and Dell BIOS variant as well for business users.
10. Dell Latitude 7285 2-in-1 at CES 2017
Dell Latitude 7285 2-in-1 supports wireless charging through WiTricity magnetic resonance wireless charging technology. The user just has to set it on a charging mat, and it automatically reconnects to the WiGig dock.
11. Dell Announcements & Upgrades
Other big announcement includes a 27-inch QHD smart workspace called Dell Canvas. It can be used at an angle or flat on a desk. Powered by Windows 10, Dell Canvas can be plugged into software solutions from Autodesk, SolidWorks, AVID, Adobe, Dassault Systems, and Microsoft.
Dell announced XPS 27 AIO, Dell Precision 7720 mobile workstation, Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K monitor and Latitude 7285.
It upgraded its Inspiron, XPS, Alienware, Latitude, OptiPlex, and Precision with USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity options, 7th Gen Intel Core processors, and graphics from NVIDIA and AMD.
12. Asus ZenFone AR at CES 2017
Asus ZenFone AR is the first phone with both Google Tango and Google Daydream. The new smartphone offers both augmented reality and virtual reality experiences. It has a 5.7-inch screen and weighs just weighs 170g. The phone features TriCam and its main sensor is a 23-megapixel with a 0.03 second autofocus.
13. Asus Chromebook Flip
Asus Chromebook Flip, or C302 is one of the most interesting Chromebooks ever released. This flexible device has its 12.5-inch display folding right back on itself for tablet mode. It is touted as the most powerful Chromebooks so far.
14. Faraday Future at CES 2017
Founded in 2014, Faraday is a relatively new company which managed to remain in spotlight with its futuristic innovations. The company focuses on intelligent electric vehicles and has made its mark with the FF Zero 1.
Faraday unveiled it’s car of the future called FF91 at CES. It is a luxury electric car that houses a 130kWh battery offering 378 miles range. It claims a Tesla-beating 0-60 time of 2.39 seconds, and offers a full run of autonomous features, like self driving and self parking. The company has not revealed final cost yet but reservations are open for $5000.
15. Honor 6X at CES 2017
Amid all the expensive and expansive gadgets, Honor announced a budget smartphone called Honor 6X. Priced at about £225, the new Honor 6X offers top-spec features, such as a dual camera on the rear.
This 5.5-inch full HD smartphone, has combination of a 12-megapixel and 2-megapixel camera on the rear. the second lens offers impressive thinks including bokeh effects.
16. HP Spectre x360 at CES 2017
HP has announced update to its Spectre x360 notebooks with the latest hardware packed in a premium and flexible design. You can set the display at just about any angle you want, or even fold it all the way flat. The edge to edge display is available in 4K.
17. Huawei at CES 2017
Huawei unveiled Mate 9 Pro- a great-looking made in China phone that has a 5.5-inch. It looks very similar to Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. It is is 99 percent the Porsche Design version in white or silver skin.
18. Netatmo at CES 2017
Netatmo announced plans to future connect your smart home. The idea is to allow you control your windows with your smartphones. This is one of the biggest announcement of its kind in partnership with Velux.
