Disney channel announced the cancellation of Girl Meets World which has left fans in utter shock. The spin-off of the beloved ’90s sitcom Boy Meets World aired for three successful seasons. The writers of the popular Disney show confirmed the heartbreaking news on Jan. 4 through a series of tweets.

Girl Meets World followed the story of Riley Matthews, daughter of Cory and Topanga. As she and her best friend, Maya go through girlhood and experience all of the pain, messiness, and laughter it brings along.

The finale episode of the show titled Girl Meets Goodbye, will showcase a big Boy Meets World reunion with William Russ, Betsy Randle, Ben Savage, William Daniels, Strong, Will Friedle, Lee Norris, Anthony Tyler Quinn and Danny McNulty all appearing.

In the episode, Girl Meets Goodbye, the Matthews family contemplates a life-changing decision,” the network said in a statement. “We are proud that for over 70 episodes, Michael Jacobs, April Kelly and the talented creative team, cast and crew entertained viewers with an authentic and heartfelt look at navigating adolescence.”

One of the most popular faces of the show, Rowan Blanchard won millions of hearts with her friendship with Maya Hart and family bond with Topanga and Cory Mathews.

“I have tried to go in and write this many times in preparation for this moment that I feared might come,” the actress shared in an Instagram post. “I will never be able to put into words my gratitude for Michael Jacobs, the creator of our world, for bring us together—by all, I mean us and you.”

She also posted a long love filled letter on her Twitter account sharing her feelings with all her fans. Rowan’s eloquent, thoughtful goodbye surely made a place in the hearts of fans of the series. The actress received tremendous appreciation through her role in more than 70 episodes.

While fans were expecting a renewal of the show, the rumors of its cancellation kept them in doubt. Though the series offered countless positive moral lessons to its young viewers, it was not as humorous as its predecessor. The last episode of Girls Meet World will air on Jan. 20.
