Netflix could soon be offering video downloads of certain Netflix content for offline viewing. This can be great news for fans who don’t have a Wi-Fi connection and don’t want to waste data. Well that surely deserves a shoutout as Netflix features many hit shows full of thrill and excitement.

A recent report suggested that viewers will soon get the ability to download certain Netflix videos to watch offline. Industry insiders believe that there will be a landscape shift when this new Netflix feature arrives. Penthera COO Dan Taitz, who also happens to the owner of a company that specializes in download-and-go software, revealed some details about the feature. According to him, the feature might release before the end of 2016.

Further confirmation came from Dan Rayburn, Frost & Sullivan Principal Analyst, who said that Netflix is working on the feature currently. “It’s a natural progression for Netflix to want to have some of their content available for consumers to watch offline, and we’ve been hearing for months now that they are in fact going to roll something out soon,” says Rayburn.

The whole idea of offline video viewing is not really new as it enables you to download videos when you have access to Wi-Fi or data. You can watch these downloaded videos whenever you want to without having to worry about internet connection. The service is already provided by some cable companies including Comcast and streaming competitor, Amazon.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings neither offered official confirmation nor denial which suggests that the reports could be true. If the feature comes before the year ends, it will be more like an early Christmas present for Netflix subscribers.

Since the reports suggest that only select content will be available, it will be exciting to see what all is offered. Fans anticipate that Orange is the New Black, Daredevil, House of Cards to be available among others.
