The Sharp Android One S3 phone is the latest addition in the growing selection of Android phones. It is the successor to the Sharp X1, which was included in the Android One program back in 2017. Being a new addition to the Android One line, what, then, makes Sharp’s new smartphone any more special than other devices? Here’s what you need to know.
Sharp Android One S3: Specs
To start off, one of the strongest features of the One S3 is arguably its exterior. The phone underwent shock testing and is MIL-SPEC rated for drops. As per reports, the test on its durability involved dropping the Android One S3 onto plywood from a height of 1.2m. On top of its resilient exterior, it is also dust and water resistant.
Interestingly, the One S3 is enrolled in Google’s Android One fast upgrade program. This makes up for its mid-range line of specs. It features a Snapdragon 430 processor and a 2,700mAh battery that charges over USB-C. Additionally, it comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB in terms of internal storage. Storage can be upgraded thanks to the One S3’s microSD card slot.
The handset boasts of being equipped with Android 8.0 Oreo right off the bat. In terms of size, the One S3 leans towards the slightly bigger frame with its 5-inch 1080p IGZO display. It has a 13MP rear-facing camera, whereas its front-facing camera is at 5MP. Reportedly, the device will be available in four colors.
Notably, the new Android One phone does not feature a fingerprint reader. This may be a bit off-putting for some, as fingerprint readers are the norm in this day and age of smartphones. Thus, users will have to rely on the more traditional approach of utilizing a password or PIN when unlocking the device.
Sharp Android One S3: Price and Availability
The One S3 makes its debut in Japan. According to reports, there has yet to be any announcement on its availability outside the Japanese market. Regardless, its price tag of US$300 is hard to ignore. With this price point, the One S3 falls under a more budget bracket. It sits alongside the likes of the Xiaomi Mi A1, Moto G4 Plus, Moto G5, and Nokia 6 with its cost. Despite this, its competitive price may come off as slightly higher than others. This is due to its aforementioned durability, as well as its resistance to dust and water.
