Wireless keyboards may not be anything new to the market — but what about a wireless keyboard that requires nothing but your own fingers? This is where Tap comes in.
What is Tap?
Tap is a wireless keyboard which utilizes sensors that turn your hands into a Bluetooth keyboard. Essentially, Tap features sensors for each of your fingers that are worn as loosely connected rings. When worn, users can then tap on any solid surface to begin typing text in. Through the use of these sensors, Tap can detect which fingers are tapping in order to turn these motions into actual text input.
Not only can Tap be used as a wireless keyboard, it also features mouse actions such as clicking, pointing, and scrolling. It’s worth noting, however, that as innovative as the concept may be, it also comes with a learning curve of its own.
Typing without any visual aid from an actual keyboard may be easier said than done, especially when Tap requires certain motion to input particular text. Fortunately, Tap has you covered with a selection of motion games that train you to get used to the keyboard motions and ease you into its unique approach. According to Tap Systems, the learning curve takes about an hour or less to overcome.
Featuring a 45 mAh battery, the Tap wireless keyboard can last up to eight hours of use or seven days of standby time. Its charging case boasts of a 370 mAh battery of its own that allows you to charge the wearable keyboard up to eight times before needing to charge the case itself.
The Tap wearable keyboard is compatible with devices that support Bluetooth 4.0 or later. This includes phones, tablets, and PCs that run Android 4.3 or later, Windos 8.1 or later, iOS 9 or later, and macOS X Yosemite or later.
What is it for?
Though the concept is unique, it’s definitely not for everybody. With its portability, Tap seems to be quite suitable for on-the-go needs. Alternatively, VR users may find Tap rather useful, as it will allow you to move more freely in a virtual reality world. Without the need of a physical keyboard — wireless or otherwise — using Tap in a VR setting may make for a more fluid user experience in VR games.
